Equinor to present at GWEC APAC Wind Energy Summit 2024 in Songdo

Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned broad energy company, will participate in the GWEC APAC Wind Energy Summit 2024, taking place from 26 to 28 November at Songdo Convensia, Incheon, where its global offshore wind experts will share perspectives on opportunities and challenges of accelerating renewable energy transition in the Asia-Pacific region. As a key partner of the event, Equinor will draw on its leading position in offshore wind to share actionable insights on scaling up renewable energy capacity in APAC.

Co-hosted by the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association (KWEIA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), this event is GWEC’s flagship 3-day conference and exhibition bringing industry leaders, policymakers and institutions together to develop innovative and collaborative solutions that address the challenges faced in supply chain and market design in wind energy development. The event provides a platform to drive the discussion for what is needed to accelerate the growth of wind energy across the region.

Equinor’s perspectives on Offshore Wind in APAC

On the first day of the summit, 26 November, Ingunn Svegården, Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Renewables at Equinor, will deliver a keynote speech in the Asia-Pacific Renewables Expert Session, addressing challenges and solutions in the global offshore wind industry.

On the same day, Bjørn Inge Braathen, Country Managing Director of Equinor Korea will be represented at the High-Level Wind Energy Forum: Unlocking investment for the next generation of wind energy in APAC and talk about the challenges and opportunities of wind energy in APAC. The next day, Braathen will also speak at the CEO Forum: Turbocharging Offshore Wind in Korea, presenting Equinor’s floating offshore wind plans for Korea. Drawing on its experience in building and operating the world’s first and largest commercial floating offshore wind farms, Equinor aims to create synergy by combining its technical expertise with Korea’s strengths in shipbuilding and marine industries.

Equinor’s Global Experts to Share Insights on Offshore Wind Competitiveness and Future Development

Equinor’s offshore wind experts will be well-represented at the summit, sharing insights to support the development of an offshore wind market in APAC.

Rajnish Sharma, Director of Project Management Offshore Wind – APAC region, and Embret Johnsgaard, Procurement Director Bandibuli & Equinor Korea, will speak on industrializing offshore wind and building a competitive supply chain in Korea.

Torje Saur, Country Manager for Equinor Japan, will discuss growth potential in Japan, whilst Nils Tore Torbergsen, Head of APAC Procurement, will bring a perspective on the evolution of supply chains and their impact on cost reduction, emphasizing the importance of leveraging Korea’s existing supply chain strengths to improve project economics, and the potential positive spillover effects this might have on other APAC markets.

Additionally, Do-Hyun Park, Bandibuli Deputy Project Director, and Ashit Jadhav, Head of Engineering Project Management Renewables, will present strategies for developing offshore wind hubs and building port and infrastructure capabilities, showcasing Equinor’s end-to-end expertise in offshore wind from development to operations.Rhodri James, Lead Business Development in APAC, will also discuss floating wind potential in the APAC region, focusing on East Asia.

Nordic-Style Booth for Networking and Knowledge Exchange with Equinor Experts

Equinor will host a Nordic-style exhibition booth at A4, to engage with industry professionals from Korea and abroad. Visitors to the booth can interact with Equinor’s offshore wind experts and learn about the latest trends and future prospects in the global offshore wind industry. A quiz event based on Equinor’s global offshore wind projects will be held at 2 pm on both 26 and 27 November, with prizes for participants.
