Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned broad energy company, donates books and book sterilizers to Ulsan Small Library Association
Equinor Korea (Country Managing Director Jacques Etienne Michel), the Korean office of Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned broad energy company, donated books together with book sterilizers to Ulsan Small Library Association (Chairman Sook-jin Kim, librarian of Ulsan Serin Small Library) representing 170 small libraries in the Ulsan area.
The Ulsan Small Library Association is a non-profit organization consisting of 170 small libraries located across Ulsan City. The association is led by volunteering residents seeking to build a better local community culture through education.
Equinor has decided to donate books as well as book sterilizers so that Ulsan citizens, both adults and children, can read books comfortably and meet with people from the local community in a small, local library without fear of the pandemic.
“We are grateful that Ulsan's corporate citizen, Equinor Korea, donated book sterilizers to give children, adolescents, and citizens of Ulsan a greater opportunity to use the Small Library more safely. The Small Library will become a space of local community culture where more Ulsan citizens can meet and use,” said Sook-jin Kim, Chairman of the Ulsan Small Library Association.
“Equinor’s donation to the Ulsan Small Library Association was carried out to share the purpose of Equinor’s Heroes of Tomorrow program, Equinor’s talent support activity for youths, together with residents in Ulsan. We hope that the books could touch the hearts of Ulsan citizens,” added Jacques-Etienne Michel, Equinor Korea Managing Director. Heroes of Tomorrow is a program that supports children to develop into future talents in science, technology, engineering, STEM and culture and arts sectors.
Project Manager of Firefly Floating Wind Project in Ulsan Dohyun Park said, “Ulsan is known in Korea as the birthplace of Korean libraries and is also the hometown of Dae-sub Um who devoted his entire life to the village library movement. We want to contribute to the local community and strengthen the Small Libraries’ role as a safe meeting place for people to communicate and interact within the community.”
Equinor Korea has also been supporting scholarships for children and youth talents in culture and arts, as well as sports, in the Ulsan area through the Child Fund Korea Ulsan Chapter since 2021.
